The Marine Safety Reserve is a crew liability pool for vessel owners , which was formed in 1954. It is managed by the Fishing Vessel Owners Association. The Marine Safety Reserve specializes in Pacific and Bering Sea longline, seine, and troll fisheries. The Reserve also covers crab operations south of Cape Spencer. The premium that is not used for the cost of claims is refunded every fifth year. The Reserve is managed by seven trustees, all of which are vessel owners belonging to the Reserve.
